Big Age, Bigger Growth | Episode 04: October Looks Good on Us

We’re more than halfway through October.

How?!

Wasn’t it hot-as-balls, boob-sweat-dripping, this summer… like just last week?

I took a lovely lazy walk this week, well a few here and there really, for some fresh air and to focus on nothing in particular. But the one around a lake near me was peak calmness. And though it’s close to some restaurants, a spa, and a few shops, you still get that “Look at me, all in nature, but not too in nature, like close enough to be surrounded by a herd of bison” feeling (I’m looking at you K-Dubs!) And it was just the reminder I needed to slow down, suck in some good phytoncides, and enjoy the lush green surroundings, dotted with those first splashes of rich autumn colour.

Just because we’re heading into the last few months of the year doesn’t mean I’m taking that as a cue to panic and negatively reflect on everything I still haven’t done. Nope. I’m steering well clear of the “Shit, time is running out to do X. Did I miss my chance to do Y?” trap. For now, anyway. That’s going to be a forever work in progress to quit it entirely.

And I still don’t need to have all my ducks in a row, lined up military-style, poised and ready for action. When I already know mine are still line-dancing and possibly day-drinking, somewhere in a far-away park. They’re living easy, don’t care too much. Heck my ducks give no fucks, so why should I stress?

Some, but not all of the leaves are changing and dropping, the seasons are shifting, and life keeps moving forward. So I’m seeing this reminder that it’s just time to step into the next. All good.

Oh, and hey, if you still haven’t got around to that one mammoth reorganizing task or cleaning out some space or corner of the house you promised yourself you’d sort out months ago, well, congratulations! Turn that frown upside down and flip that bitch around. You’re just ahead of schedule for Halloween. Stressed by dust and cobwebs? Pur-lease! Wrap string lights around them, and boom, intentional seasonal decor. Follow me for more tips!

And also, don’t. Clearly.

Now, you know I’m a summer girly through and through, so I’ll never say I’m thrilled about Old Man Winter sticking his big, crusty head out and peeking around the corner with his unwelcome cheesy grin. So just like Mariah, God love her, you’re both too damn early!

In October, we’re dipping our toes into all the stunning autumn colors and letting the thought of food that sticks to your ribs ignite our senses. That’s what I want to linger. Plus it’s a helluva welcome change from being terrified to eat salads, or anything raw this summer, with that unimaginable fear of contracting forever-diarrhea and the 50,000 other beyond-crazy food contamination threats in the US of A.

Now let’s shake that poop-train visual off, shall we?

IreneB and the Phytoncides... album coming soon!

But again, summer just left the dance floor, and winter isn’t even on the waitlist. Entry is all the way denied!

For now, let’s get outside as much as we can, when we can, and enjoy the sunshine over our faces when it shows up.

Push aside those end-of-year doubts and pre-panics, and make sure October looks just as good on you as summer did. ❤️
