The Beauty In Actively Creating A Good And Slower Life

It’s summer. And yes, I love, love, love, summer. But 2026 summer? She gots to go!

There’s hot and then there’s 2026 balls-and-boob-sweat hot… and it’s everywhere.

The globe is basically boiling, and honestly, moving quickly right now feels like a personal attack. The ‘prison-style shank’ kind of attack.

On too many days these past few months, walking outside feels like stepping into Satan’s pizza oven. We’re done, we’re crispy, yet someone keeps turning up the dial. For the love of God, turn it off! Then only to have to dip into an office building or store, and in under three seconds after sliding through the doors, we’re held hostage inside Mr. Freeze’s cryotherapy chamber. Ya can’t win. Well, in the USA, anyway. Apologies to my UK and Euro peeps. Please stay safe out there.

So yeah, moving fast in general? Ain’t happening. But because of this, I’ve been thinking a lot about my pace in general. Because there was a time when I well and truly locked in on my passion projects and the goals I wasn’t willing to drop.

I Was Tired Of Chasing Time

Suddenly, I felt this need to constantly push forward, wanting to check more goals off my list faster. Needing to prove to myself that I was moving in the right direction and really getting my shit done.

And don’t get me wrong, I still believe in growing. Building, creating, learning, doing the things I truly love, and becoming a better version of me along the way.

But in that initial rush and while drowning in self-inflicted overwhelm, it forced me to realize there’s a difference between moving forward and running yourself into the ground.

My kiddos are older, and I know I have more time for me, but my “I refuse to slip backwards” mantra had me charging ahead at full speed, trying to catch up to time. All it created was a sweaty, stressed-out me… with a fresh set of Big Age problems. Menopause, andropause, they can all bloody-well pause. No thanks.

Quite frankly, I’m exhausted just remembering it.

Slow Doesn’t Mean Stopping

These days, moving with intention is more my speed. That’s the pace I’m on. I’m creating a life that I genuinely want to live in and experience as I’m building it, not making up time for what I think I’ve missed.

“Romanticizing your life,” I think the cool kids are calling it, and that sounds bloody good to me. Living my life in the smaller moments, the ones we almost miss, instead of only waiting for and celebrating the big milestone ones.

I’ll soak up:

The Little Moments Count Too

Scratch that, those little moments, my pace… they might be the whole point. I’m finally understanding that progress and intention don’t always have to mean TIME TO PANIC!

Frantic will never be my friend, not anymore, not where I can’t help it. Right now, creating a good and slow life is something I’m actively doing while everything else is still happening, and it’s one that will never be finished.

So yes, I’m pacing myself for the better. I’m not stopping… I’m just slowing my roll.

We’ve spent enough years racing the clock. What if this chapter is about actually being right here?
